The SS Universe

My floating university pictured below--the S.S. Universe--was not exactly a luxury cruise ship by today's standards, but it quickly became home to its approximately 500 students each semester. The S.S. Universe was recently retired, and Semester at Sea began using their new ship the SS Universe Exploreron the Spring, 1996 Voyage.

SS Universe
Fun on deck on the SS Universe. Note the students sitting on the ship's railing. During our voyage, one student fell in and had to be rescued. He was in the water for quite a while, and was quite shaken up by the whole event.
SS Universe
Our pool--it was like a wave pool...as the sea moved, the waves in the pool would toss you around like a rag doll.
My cabin
This is a picture of my cabin. I was a work-study student, and as such had a rather small--but comfortable--inside cabin. The right side of the picture is actually a mirror. My roomate (Ruth Joder) and I hung pictures of our friends and family all over it. We each had a single locker (about the size of your typical high school locker) to store all of our gear in.
